WA: BHP Billiton denies fly-in fly-out stops locals getting jobs

PERTH, Jan 21 AAP - BHP Billiton today denied union claims it was using fly-in fly-outworkers at its Pilbara operations at the expense of workers in regional towns.

The Australian Workers' Union (AWU) is planning a campaign this week against the mininggiant, saying the company is employing staff from outside the West Australian region atthe expense of local towns and indigenous communities.

The union claims BHP recruits from outside and does not advertise jobs locally.
